Your guide to making a claim

How to make a claim

Emergency medical evacuation

Our plans include an evacuation and repatriation service. This means that if you are unable to get the treatment you need locally, we’ll organise for you to be taken to where you can.

Our medical assistance partner, CEGA, can arrange a medical evacuation by a scheduled airline or air ambulance to safely transport you to a more suitable medical facility. You must contact them first if you wish to start your claim. The nature of the medical condition and your location are often the key factors when arranging evacuation transport and the type of medical escort required.

Outpatient consultations, tests and treatment (including dental care)

If you have a medical concern, you can visit your doctor who will discuss your condition and recommend treatment. If they think you need to see a specialist, they will arrange for a referral letter to be sent to you via email.

If you see a doctor or a specialist as an outpatient, you'll normally need to pay the bill at the time of your appointment. The hospital should provide you with an itemised invoice and proof of payment. Make sure you keep these as you'll need to send them to us.

STEP 1
CONTACT CEGA, THE ASSISTANCE COMPANY
When you have an emergency or life-threatening medical condition and local medical facilities are not available or adequate, call +44(0)1243 621130, or email:
[email protected]. You will need your certificate number and treating physician’s details.

STEP 2
ASSESS YOUR CLAIM
CEGA will assess the availability of the local facilities and decide whether a medical evacuation is required and make the necessary arrangements.

STEP 3
MEDICAL EVACUATION
You will be taken to the nearest centre of excellence to receive medical treatment. All medical and evacuation costs will be settled directly with CEGA.

HOW TO GET HELP IN AN EMERGENCY

Short-term and student plans

STEP 1
CONTACT CEGA, THE ASSISTANCE COMPANY
To start a claim, you'll need to call CEGA on +44 (0)1243 621130 or email:
[email protected]. You will need your certificate number and treating physician’s details.

STEP 2
ASSESS YOUR CLAIM
CEGA will assess your claim and advise on cover available.

If you’re going to be admitted to a hospital as an inpatient, we can send a pre-approval letter to the medical facility where you'll be treated. This letter will confirm that your treatment will be covered by us, so that they can send us the bill directly.

Some hospitals prefer the bill for inpatient treatment to be paid before you leave.  In this instance, you’ll need to pay for your treatment and send us the invoices and proof of payment so that we can reimburse you.

What happens after you submit your claim

Once you submit your claim, you will receive an email within 24 hours confirming that we have received it.

If you've submitted a claim for a consultation or treatment that you have already paid for, we will pay for the covered expenses directly into your chosen bank account.

We can settle claims in any currency that you choose, providing that such currency can be freely purchased by our bank. There are some currencies we are not able to make settlement in.

If you've submitted a claim to pay for your inpatient treatment, the hospital or a treating physician will send the medical bills directly to the Assistance Company, who will arrange for direct settlement with the hospital/provider of medical care.
